INTERVIEW – Disqualification of Journalists in A’Ibom null and Void-NUJ National Secretariat

After breaking boxes and batches, destroying relationship and friendship, betraying and denying colleagues, facing and escaping attacks during the NUJ election to install Mr. Joe Effiong led executive in the State. Rather than receive blessing for a job well done, the newly installed NUJ executive set up a committee and disqualified virtually half of the number of Journalists who voted them on the ground based known to them, the disqualified Journalists who have practiced for many years and are either currently pursuing their professional courses in 11J, or awaiting their certificates last week sent a delegation to National Secretariat of NUJ, Abuja to find out what has constituted the basis of their disqualification having good medium, good character and other ethical conducts. Addressing the delegation, the National Secretary of NUJ, Mr. Shaibu Usman Leman said the Akwa Ibom State Council of NUJ does not have constructional right to disqualify Journalists who are not touts, and reverse the trend to status quo. In practical terms it Akwa Ibom NUJ still maintains that the disqualified journalists were not journalists after voting than into power, it means that their election should be cancelled since they were voted into power by carpenters, hunters, market women and truck pushers who do not have any connection in Journalism: Except: Read the rest of this entry
