Lets Speak With One Voice Says T. T. Brown
… As Ijaw People in A’Ibom celebrate end of year

It was another day of joy, and a time of coming together as the Ijaw community in Akwa Ibom State recently held their 2011 get- together party in Uyo.
In an opening remark, the Chairman, Ijaw Community in Akwa Ibom State, Chief T.T. Brown thanked God for his love and for being with them throughout the year 2011. Chief Brown who also is the Executive Director of Empress Table Water Company appreciated and welcomed all other members who turned up for the party and urged them to continue speaking in one voice.
Also speaking, the Chairman on the occasion, Ekaluo Benjamin Ekaluo thanked God for His infinite mercy and protection throughout 2011. Mr. Ekaluo who is a retired Deputy Director, Ministry of Youth and sports also stated that “the essence of this get-together party is to create a forum for you to know your brothers well”. He added that “there is nothing so great than when you discover your stock and you relate with them”. He further pointed that the Ijaws are the fourth ethnic nationality in Nigeria. He called on all the Ijaw people in the state to come together, share their difference and should be ready to fraternize knowing that their brothers are anywhere and everywhere. As the Vice Chairman, Ibeno clan, the Chairman acknowledged that Ibeno and Eastern Obolo are two Ijaw communities in Akwa Ibom state. Mr Ekaluo urged the people to always remain together.
In a chat with Century Newsfront shortly after the ceremony, the DPO C division Aka, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Mr Ebipamowei Okoyen thanked the organizers of the party and also expressed his happiness for being a part of the union.
According to the Superintendent of Police, the get-together was very important to him as a police, as “this is a part of community policing, where you get closer to the people, you get ideas from them, you get to know their feelings and you try your best to adapt and make relevant changes where you know that you were not doing well”.
Highlights of the party include prayers, dancing and language competency test which was done to know if they were still able to speak their language even when they reside outside their place of origin.
Also in attendance were Lady Julie Ibok who was the Vice Chairman on the occasion, Mr. Barry, the Secretary of the association, Percy Wariebi-Financial Secretary, Lucky Otutu, the PRO and the Welfare section headed by Mrs. Ruth Brown.
Others members of the community who were present at the party include Mr Werebi Owotorufa, the DPO ‘A’ Division, Mr Sunday P. Digha, DPO ‘B’ Division , Mr. Festus Abasi, Sampson Ntene, Mr. Duke Babebaraseigha who is the treasurer of the association, Comrade Nse Dan Ekpe, Pastor Steve and Pastor Japhet O. Japhet.
