Imoke emerges PDP flag-bearer in C/River guber race

Senator Liyel Imoke has been elected the flag bearer of the ruling People Democratic Party in Cross River State for the April, 2012 governorship election.

His victory was announced by the chairman of the PDP electoral panel, Senator Ahmed Sana, at the U. J. Esuene stadium Calabar recently. Imoke garnered a total of 737out of 747 votes cast while his co-contender, Ambassador Sunny Abang got 3 votes. The electoral panel voided 7 votes.

In his reaction, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha described the exercise as free and fair and was devoid of any form of violence. He commended the State PDP for its maturity and high sense of direction. Also speaking, the State Chairman of Party, Ntufam Ekpo in an opening remark also commended members of the party for the orderly way they conducted the election.

Commending the conduct of the primaries, Senator Sana said, “nobody will point a finger and say there was mago-mago because “it was witnessed by the numbers six and seven citizens of the nation as well as the delegates themselves”.

He said that by the outcome of the exercise, Imoke was declared the winner of the primaries as well as the party’s flag bearer for April governorship election in the state.

Speaking shortly after the exercise, the governor-elect, Sen LiyeI moke who expressed gratitude to Cross  Riverians for the confidence reposed in him said that his victory is not made by him but the people of Cross River who have chosen him through a peaceful and transparent process and promised never to let them down.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Barrister Mike Igini witnessed the conduct of the primaries.
