Iquo Inyang declares intention

A former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Iquo Nyong Inyang has formally joined the senate race in Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District) of Akwa Ibom State.

She declared her intent last weekend at Primary School ground Uyo Obio, Ediene in Ikono Local Government Area.

Honorable Iquo’s entrance into the race has finally put paid to months of speculation over her senatorial aspiration, has already sent disturbing signals to other contenders in the political district.

Before a large crowd of political allies, family members, villagers, youths, elders, PDP ward executive members, as well the four family heads of Uyo Obio namely Chiefs Etim Udo Usoro, Udo Nsit Essien, Christoconus Udo Ekpo and Udo Jackson Akpan. Barrister Inyang who had earlier paid a courtesy call on the village head of the Uyo Obio, Eteidung Linus Udo Iba said the exercise was in recognition of her people as the immediate political base whose blessing was pertinent for her ambition.

The former Deputy Chairman, Police Affairs Committee in the Lower Chamber where she represented Ikono/lni Federal Constituency from 1999 to 2007, acknowledged God as the only one who gives power to whomsoever he wills for the good of mankind adding that, her tenure in the Upper Chamber will put smiles on the faces of the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.

Answering questions from Journalists, Barrister Inyang said, it is on record that the people of Ikono/lni started enjoying dividends of party politics during her tenure when she broke long years of "nothing dey" syndrome in politics by elected public officers in the federal constituency.

She informed the press that arrangements had been concluded for large scale consultations preparatory to the PDP primaries coming up in September, explaining that the seeming delay in her declaration was to enable her consult widely as the first female senator to be produced in the senatorial district.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Chief Udo Jackson Akpan expressed delight at her aspiration and assured that the people of Uyo Obio would stand by her. The Chief committed her and her dream to God for success. Similarly, the youth leader of that community, Comrade Okon Mbiam Udokang also commended the foresight and vision of their daughter whom he described as Queen Esther.

However, Comrade Mbiam and Chief Udo Jackson Akpan called on the aspirant to look into the socio-political problems of the area. The declaration was witnessed by a former Local Government Chairman in Ikono, Otuekong Suny Udokang, Hon. Emmanuel Udoh, (Fotomania), Atai Obonganwang, Grace Inyang, CAN Chairman, Ikono, Apostle Dr. Kingsley Inyang, PDP Ward Secretary, Victor Ekanem among others.
