Ikot Obio Odong Crowns New village Head

It was a gathering of who is who last Monday July 26^th, 2010 when people from all walks of life converged in the village of Ikot Obio Odongo, Ibesikpo  Asutan Local Government Area to witness the coronation of  chief Edem  Mophat Inyang as cthe village head of the community.

Among them were elders and chiefs in the area and beyond including Obong Emem Essien  the mkpisong Akwa Esop  Imaisong Ibibio, Obong E.E Etefia-Mkpisong Ibibio  Adaha Ikono, Eteidung Nelson O.Thomas JP, Representative  of Etebom Effiong Eberefiak JP who is the clan head of Oku, Uyo.

Others include Engr. (Dr B. E. Idem Ubok Naasia Ikot His Highness) Eze (Dr) (Yc Umeakuka JP the Leader of NDIGBO, Anambra in Akwa Ibom State.

Century Newsfront who also witnessed the occasion reports that the event marked a cheerful memories which would remain indelible in the life of the village head in particular and that of the people of the community in general when the whole community went agog and every member of the village and other residents partook in the celebration characterized by fanfare and general merriment.

Chief Edem Mophat takes of the rulership of the village from Chief Etim Effiong Udoh who died some years ago when the preset village head, Eteidung Inyang Village head, Eteidung Inyang served as an assistant village head.

A biodata of the new village head indicate that Chief Edem Mophat    Inyang is a retired staff of shell company, Port Harcourt, educated with a degree including National Red zeal Diploma from National School of management, England and above all God fearing, transparent when the people believe that he would be able to carry them along in the running of the affairs of the community served speeches were made at the occasion. Among those who spoke were Otuekong Macauley, Uko Asuquo Akpan who expressed the hope that with the caliber of Chief Edem Mophat  Inyang on the throne ,  the entire community of Ikot Obio Odongo would be transformed including the competition of the village council of the ensuring peaceful co-existence in the area.

Others who   spoke were E.PIdoi, His Highness Eze (Dr) Cy! Umeakuka JP, Eme  Afia who Described Chief   Inyang as a man of honour, humble,  who which in  Port. Harcourt, Rivers state was often referred to as “Obong Ndito Akwa Ibom” who reign would ensure total transformation of the village.

High point of the occasion was the presentation of the village head to the paramount ruler of Ibesikpo Asutan in his palace, Edidem Ita Etuk who readily recognized chief Inyang as certificated village head as certificated village head of Ikot Obio Odongo amidst pomp and pageantry.

In a reaction to the event, a  one time commissioner for chieftaincy Affairs, Pastor Abang O. Abang  Commended Chief  Inyang for successful attainment to the  throne adding that he should  always seek divine wisdom and guidance in the  running of  affairs of the community  at al times.

While wishing him a successful and peaceful reign, pastor Abang called on the communities in the area to cooperate with him to be able to bring about the development of the village
