Village Head-elect Solicits For Peace

The village head elect of Ikot Obio Odongo in Ibesikpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Amb. (Elder) Edem Muffat Inyang, has called on all indigenes of the community to live peacefully and cooperate with him with the view to moving the community forward.

            The new Eteidung who said this at his country home during the funeral of the late village head of the community, Late Chief Etim Effiong Udo, at the weekend maintained that with cooperation, love, peace and unity from the people of the community both at home and in Diaspora, meaningful development both in infrastructure and human resources would be bought home to the benefit of all.

            He thanked the people of the community for deeming him fit for the position and also prayed that the Almighty God should bless the people, promising that he would work tirelessly to lift the community to an enviable height and pledged to work in tandem with the villagers both with those at home and abroad to build a giant community with meaningful developments not only in terms of infrastructure but that which would also touch human lives directly.

            In his statement, “I promise to cooperate with all indigenes both in the village and in Diaspora both in infrastructure and in human resources in Ikot Obio Odongo for the benefits of all the citizens”.

            In a resolution made by the village council executive members, youth and women representatives as well as family heads in the community, it was stressed thus “the duty, need and right of the people of Ikot Obio Odongo village to select a new village head to head the village in accordance with the customs and traditions of the people in fulfillment of the law. All the four kingmakers, village council executive members, youths and women representatives unanimously announced to all those present and entire citizens of Ikot Obio Odongo that Amb. Edem Muffat Inyang (JP) of royal family Nung Oku of Ikot Obio Odongo in Ibesikpo local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State as their only village head-elect.

            He is to occupy the office, seat, stool and perform the functions of the immediate past village head, late Etedung Chief Etim Effiong.”

            Before his assumption to the new office, Amb. Inyang was the deputy village head and also acted for the village head for periods which, after the death of the immediate past village head, he was formally elected.

            The villagers described the ascension of Amb. Inyang as the wish of God for the community and that right person whom the villagers were looking for has been formally elected to take the people of Ikot Obio Odongo to the  land of riches and prosperity.

            Moreover, they applauded the election of Eteidung Inyang saying that it was based on the fact that he was from the ruling family in Ikot Obio Odongo.

            According to them, “the wish of God and that of the people is done. The selection of Elder Inyang as the new Eteidung is wise. He was unanimously chosen and confirmed by the entire people of Ikot Obio Odongo. He was traditionally and customarily initiated into the office of Eteidung Ikot Obio Odongo, Ibesikpo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State in place of Late Eteidung Chief Etim Effiong”.
