President Jonathan’s Visit to Akwa Ibom: A Blessing in Disguise
(Akwa Ibom Now Has Constant Power Supply)
By Joe Etokudor
I urge every one to pardon my humble submission as in my commencement of this write up by inviting you to the injunction of the almightily creator, upon whose power and unchallengeable decision all good efforts of men get crowned. I love to take you to this particular case as ruled in time and by divine tide…. “Promotion cometh neither from the East, nor the west, nor the south, nor the North it cometh from God”.
More so according to the wisest man on earth in his book Ecclesiastes he days: “the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong neither yet bread to the wise nor yet richest to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill, but time and enhance happen to them all”.
In fact, the visit of president Good luck Jonathan to Akwa Abasi Ibom State, could not have taken place in a better time than now, a lot of speculations had been renting the air as to the second term bid of our amiable Governor His Excellency Dr Goodswill Obot Akpabio. Critics from nowhere have gone a long way in trying to blackmail him before the president for no just cause. And now the president has come to see things for himself. Attendant upon this, the governor must have had his mind race back to history to the very day of April 30 1789, in the Federal Hall in New York when in total submission and supplication through the first inaugural address George Washington bellowed across to the then disorderly American nation “ I have been too much swayed by a grateful remembrance of former instances or an affectionate sensibility to this transcendent proof of the confidence of my fellow citizens my error will be palliated by the motives which misled me and its consequences be judged with some share of the partiality in which they originated. Of course ours is not the supremely American government and power. It is not distinct government for a distinct people.
It is a government of a unit of our large society which has been created for the elevation of the welfare of mankind of THE Akwa Ibom Stocks their environment their friends their visitors and their drive at joining the expanding exercise in globalization. We should look at the Governor without pity because he stands amongst us all with the deepest sense of heritage. Let us allow him stand before us proud and tall as an Akwa Ibomites who has been humbles and unsparing challenged with a second democratic mandate which has been presasoned by the plumes as well as the vicissitudes of a past four-year tenure. As appointed unto us one by the great maker to perpetually engage in taming our world for love and brother lines, and two, by our statute books to compellingly seek the perfection of the modern society through the extension of the resources of the state for the benefit of each member of the society, the presidents visit could not have gathered us for the mere platitudes usually associated with land mark political transactions. Rather what we witnessed at the president’s visit being a remarkable departure point for the actualization of the fuller texture of our democratic enterprise was a deep commitment to the bonding of a people who must much as ordained by providence but must as cultivate in the way of life of our race be anchored on individual and group initiatives.
In appreciating what the president said during his august visit to Akwa Ibom State, the governor did say it to the hearing of everyone that he had not disappointed Akwa Ibomites which in clear terms. We have seen he hasn’t. He has actually given a proper account of the mandate which we all gave to him. Today we all clad our visage with the truth that are Akwa Ibomites, we are human we love ourselves, and our neighbours. We all belong to this Akwa Ibom State and we should help form the government whose dominant purposes will be to promote the peace build hope strive at continuity on that which is good crave at reaching that which assures posterity for the benefit of our people. “Godswill” the cap fits you wear it on.
For any community to achieve the desirable socio-economic development, it must be blessed with selfless, dynamic and visionary leadership.
It has always been the wish of the electorate therefore to have a leader who will not only have the welfare of his people in mind but also fulfill the desire of the masses that installed him through the ballot box.
Akwa Ibom State was created on September 23, 1987 by the federal government since then has not witnessed tat kind of positive transformation that is at presence embarked upon by its brilliant and focused leader-chief Dr Godswill Akpabio let us all give him another chance.
