Residents of Ikono street, Uyo within the Urban Area of Akwa Ibom took to their heels early this week, Tuesday, June 29th, 2010 abandoning their houses and shops apparently to save to their lives from any stray bullet or being kidnapped when a gang of hoodlums struck in the area killing Okada rider carrying two kids, a girl and a boy, ages, 7 and 9 in Primaries two and four (Names withheld by us) who were returning from school and abducting them.
How they disappeared from the scene remains a mystery but they only left there the body of the Okada rider found dead stone, a face cap, helmet and the machine, he used in carrying the kids with registration No. QJ 203 NGD.
A Computer Centre, Ikator Global Link at No4 Ikono Street opposite a one story building where the two kids live were under lock and keys as every other shop, houses and fence while the areas within the street were virtually empty but only passers-by and those who heard the news and came to witness the scene gathered in groups apparently sympathizing and discussing the matter while the police cordoned off the area for fear that no other ugly event take place.
The story has it that, the Okada rider that conveyed the 2 kids along with a house boy from the school (Monef Kiddies) was coming back from the school without knowing that he was being trailed by a group of men also on seven different motor bikes but on reaching his destination with the kids, these men whose mission was to kidnap the kids pounced on them but was resisted by the Okada rider who came to drop the kids and as the struggle continued the dare devil men removed their gun, opened it thus letting go some volleys of bullets into the man’s belly, chest and head and knowing that he was dead, they disappeared into the thin air with the 2 kids.
Reports say on hearing the sound of the guns, their mother and uncle who were in the house mourning the death of her husband and father of the kids, Late Mr. Williamson Ntia, yet to be buried next week Saturday, July 10,2010, came out and recognizing her kids and the unsuspected Kidnappers became undaunted wishing to fly into the thin air shouted to bring back her kids but could not while neighbors helplessly watched the scene.
Newsfront correspondent at the scene report that while the police were trying to lug the corpse of the Okada rider and his motor bike, a young man who claimed to be a reporter with Daily Independent Newspaper was apprehended, picked up and dumped inside the police van alongside with the mutilated Okada rider. At the press time, the mission of the self acclaimed Journalist was yet to be unravalled as the bonafide Correspondent to the said Newspaper; Mr. Aniefiok Macauley has since been identified who denied ignorance of the person.
The elder brother to the kids, Mr. Mkpouto Ntia while narrating the ordeals to Century Newsfront said that their late father whose body is yet to be committed to the mother earth died after over years of protracted illness was a retired Prison official
Investigations into the matter are continuing, reports add as the whereabout of the two kids are not yet known two days after the incidence.
