EXPOSED! Julius Berger’s Strategy to Scuttle Akpabio’s Second Term
By Our Reporter
When Chief Godswill Akpabio received the overwhelming support of the electorates in 2007 to become the governor of Akwa Ibom State, it was a resultant effect of his goodwill coupled with his promise to empower Akwa Ibom people as well as to develop the state to the admiration of all.
On assumption of office, the promise keeping governor swung into action by inviting world class construction experts who would deface the ugly state of the State to that which would attract investors to the geographical entity called, Akwa Ibom.
Since it is a known and established fact that any company or organization that operate in a particular environment has the social responsibility of employing indigenes of those places to work for those companies or organization. Julius Berger, Nigeria, also fulfilled this social responsibility in employing Akwa Ibom indigenes to fill various positions in the company. Investigations by Century Newsfront reveals that certain slattern of the company especially the non indigenes are working to frustrate the government good intentions of creating job opportunities to the people as a way of ameliorating their suffering and unemployment in the State.
In a chat with a staff of the company who pleaded anonymity, the source confirms the high handedness and unruly behaviour of the company staff by saying that these people treat Akwa Ibom people like slaves in their father land. The source further explained that “One Mr. Arianegbe Williams, a former staff in Julius Berger workshop at Itam Main yard is one of the people that trouble our people in that place.” Century Newsfront investigations reveals that in the month of April, 2010 a case of disappearance of the company vehicle, Man Diesel Tipper from the store which our findings revels that Mr. Williams and Abraham, were placed under suspension though the suspension was later lifted. “Since these two people were involved in that matter which the company was fully aware they deserve a pay off according to the company’s rules but this was abated.
“Though I don’t encourage anybody to indulge in any criminal act, but if such incident was to happen to an Akwa Ibom person, these same people would have worked for their pay off. Why should Akwa Ibom people always be used and dumped”, the source querried.
Century Newsfront gathered that over ten, Akwa Ibom indigenes have had their appointment terminated this year in the truck workshop while others are placed on indefinite suspension. The unfortunate issue, the source continues, “Is that whenever there is any case of missing items that involves our people, the supervisors will connive with the security officers of the company and hand over our people to the police and expose them to unnecessary tortures and they will spend their little income until they finally get their appointment terminated whereas the non indigenes since they are the majority in the senior cadre, they will maneuver and cover it up for the person to continue in his crime and finally a top management staff may not be aware of most of these things. If you go section by section you will find how our people are being marginalized, discriminated against and a high sense of injustice”. The most annoying, thing is how one of the senior security officers, Mr. Lucky Agbayama always describe Akwa Ibom people as fools and boasted that the (Akwa Ibom people) cannot do him anything, highest he (Luky) will give money to lawyers and police and silent every body”, the source lamented.
Century Newsfront also gathered that since the transfer of Lucky Agbayama, from Ahoda, Rivers State to Akwa Ibom as a result of some of his nefarious activities since he is in charge of security, he use his position in collaboration with other non indigenes in various departments and sack over thirty Akwa Ibom indigenes who had hope of their daily bread and called on the top management of the company to look into the activities of some of their employees with a view of correcting some of the injustices against Akwa Ibom people whom the Governor of the State Chief Godswill Akpabio, empowers with a view of reaching out to people through job creation and employment.
