UNIUYO 15TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY
…honours four with Doctorate Degrees
The 15th convocation ceremony of the University of Uyo is slated to take place on Saturday April 24, 2009 at the main campus located along Uyo, Nwaniba.
The event according to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Akaneren Essien while briefing newsmen in Uyo on Wednesday stated that the ceremony proper is to be proceeded by a convocation lecture title, “Nigerian Intellectuals and the challenge of Nation building” is to be handled by a renowned scholar, Prof. (Amb.) Okon Nyah on Friday April 24, 2009.
Speaker further, Prof. Essien noted that four distinguished Nigerians who have carved a niche in their fields of endeavour would be honoured at the convocation event. They include Chief Godswill Akpabio, the Executive governor of Akwa Ibom State who bags Doctor of Law; Dr. Sherif, Executive governor of Borno State bags Doctor of Science; Mrs. Ema Brown, a veteran Journalist with Doctor of Letters while Dr. Spencer Anu also bags Doctor of Science.
The Vice Chancellor said that the total of 3,384 students of 2006/2007 badge would be graduated on Saturday April 25, 2009. a breakdown of the figures indicate that 2,529 graduands are of first Degree category, 415 for Masters Degree, 59 for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) while 381 are for Post Graduate Diploma (PGD).
He disclosed that all the 66 programmes offered in the University have been fully accredited by the National University Council (NUC).
Prof. Essien attributed the successes recorded by the Institution to the supports extended to it by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio and the late Chancellor of the University and Emir of Fika, whom he described as a father to the University.
He announced that a new governing council has been constituted with Dr. Shem Nuhu as chairman.
